As our last trip to Pomona Promise, the Club for Christ brought 8 people along to say our final farewells to everyone. We saw many familiar faces, but some new ones as well. For the first time, I met Angel Dia, a fifty-one year old man from Cuba. A friendly, and outgoing man, I started a conversation with him. As I tried my best to make use of my AP Spanish, we talked mainly about his life in the United States. Currently out of work and seeking a job Dia, as a result, comes to Pomona Promise at least three times a week for free food. As he relays little tidbits of his life story, he explains that at nineteen years old, he emigrated to the United States in pursuit of "liberty"- and has been on his own ever since. His only family now is a sister in New York and a brother in Miami.

As we go on to joke in my amateur Spanish, I am in awe at how lively, and seemingly joyful this man is. I am constantly blessed with meeting people who I can learn a little more from, in this case- Mr. Dia's background.
As the rest of the night filled of salad, pasta, and cupcake continues, we meet Isaiah- Pastor Craig's son who never ceases to make us laugh. We finish our night in a performance of Isaiah's new dance moves. I will deeply miss the people I have formed a connection with over the past three years.

Come back next year to read more entries,
